President Putin Affirms Russia Is Trying To Prevent A Major War In The Middle East, The Condition Is A Two-State Solution
JAKARTA - President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia is working hard to prevent conflict in the Middle East from escalating into a major war, during a ceremony to receive credentials from foreign ambassadors at the Kremlin on Tuesday.
"Since the Israeli Ambassador is here, I would like to say that Russia is working hard to prevent the Israeli-Palestinian conflict which is currently deteriorating into a major war in the Middle East," President Putin stressed, quoted by TASS on November 6.
He added that Russia believes the only way to return the warring parties to the path of reconciliation, achieving a sustainable and long-term settlement is through a universally recognized international legal framework.
According to President Putin, the main requirement to restore peace in the region is the application of a two-state solution, as outlined in the resolution of the Security Council and supported by the UN General Assembly.
Last week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia was continuing to deal with all warring parties in the Middle East and would do anything to defuse the situation.
"Russia continues to be in contact with all warring parties. We are in contact with Tehran, Israel, and Palestine," he said.
"Of course, Russia is doing everything possible to ask these parties to exercise restraint, as well as facilitate efforts to ease tensions. We will continue to do so," Peskov continued.
On that occasion Peskov emphasized that the situation in the Middle East region was still very tense.
"Of course it is very important to press for restraint," he exclaimed.
Separately, the number of Palestinian civilians killed since the start of the relentless Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, has jumped to 43,391, most of whom are children and women, while 102,347 others were injured, quoted from WAFA.
Meanwhile, thousands of victims have yet to be found, both buried under the rubble and scattered along the way, as rescue teams face significant challenges to reach them as a result of continuing Israeli attacks and heavy debris.
It is known that the situation in the Middle East, which has been heating up due to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza, is getting more and more tense with the increase in the escalation of Israel-Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Most recently, Israel launched airstrikes against Iran by attacking a number of targets on October 26.
It was said in response to the attacks carried out by Iran on October 1 by sending nearly 200 ballistic missiles and cruises to Israel, in response to the death of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh, Secretary General Hezbollah Hasan Nasollah and senior general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
