Mardani H Maming's Attorney Reports These 2 Media To The Press Council Because It Is Uncharged For Responsibility

JAKARTA - Mardani H Maming's attorney will take steps to complain about this.com and Tempo.co to the press council because they object to the news.

Andreas Dony Kurniawan's attorney demanded that the two media contain the Right to Answer to the public for inaccurate and unbalanced reports.

Andreas objected to the link between Zarof Ricar and his client in this news.com, entitled "Alleged Broker in the Maming PK Case, DPR Plans to Summon the Supreme Court to investigate Zarof-Sunarto's Relations" which aired Thursday, October 31.

Doni also sent similar rights to Tempo.co for the news "After Zarof Ricar was arrested, PK Mardani Maming was highlighted". He considered that the news indirectly put pressure on the panel of Supreme Court judges who were examining Mardani Maming's judicial review (PK).

Dony emphasized that his client did not know anything about the former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Zarof Ricar.

"In fact, Mardani H Maming bravely, openly and transparently allowed an examination of his decision to be carried out, and a book review was carried out in front of the wider community which was attended and given a response in the form of legal opinion and a court friend's letter (amicus curtiae)," Dony said in his letter of right to answer and correction, Thursday, October 31.

Doni assessed that ethically one of the functions of the Right to Answer service is to respect the dignity and honor of people who feel aggrieved by the press reports.

Moreover, Article 5 paragraphs (2) and (3) of Law no. 40/1999 requires the press to serve the right to answer and corrections accompanied by the threat of a criminal fine of Rp. 500 million as stated in Article 18 Paragraph (2) of the law. Thus, the issue of the Right to Answer is not only an ethical problem but also a law.

"We have sent the strengthening of this right to answer to comply with Law No. 40 of 1999 concerning the Press," he said.

Ia meminta agar sejumlah media tetap pada jalurnya sebagai kontrol sosial dan mengutamakan kode etik jurnalistik, agar tidak merugikan pihak lain.
