Police Arrest Bengkulu Resident Promoting Cambodian Online Gambling on IG

JAKARTA - The police arrested IE (25), a public figure on social media or influencer from Selebar District, Bengkulu City for promoting an online gambling site (judol) or online from Cambodia.

For the judol account from Cambodia, the Bengkulu Police have reported it to the National Police Headquarters for follow-up.

"The suspect with the initials IE has been endorsing online gambling links for about a year," said the Director of Criminal Investigation of the Bengkulu Police, I Wayan Riko Setiawan, when delivering a release at the Bengkulu Police Headquarters, Monday, November 4, quoted by Antara.

He said that the suspect IE had promoted the judol site after being contacted by an unknown person via a message on the social media Instagram or IG.

Then, the suspect promoted the judol link via his Instagram for IDR 100 million and would receive additional payment if someone played on the judol site via the promoted link.

Riko explained that the arrest of the suspect began when members of the Cyber ​​Sub-Directorate carried out a cyber patrol and found an Instagram account that posted or uploaded content containing gambling.

"Then members of the Cyber ​​Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Bengkulu Police conducted a search for the owner of the Instagram account," he said.

Based on the results of coordination with the Communication and Information Service (Kominfo) regarding the content or site, it was escalated to the investigation stage and arrested IE in South Bengkulu Regency.

"From the suspect, the police secured evidence in the form of a cellphone belonging to the suspect as evidence. Then, the suspect was contacted by someone in Indonesia, while the dealer was from Cambodia," said Riko.
