JAYAPURA - Deputy Chief of the Papua Regional Police (Wakapolda) Brigadier General Pol. Faizal Rahmadani confirmed the armed criminal group (KKB), Saturday (2/11), attacked and opened fire on residents who were in Wabu River or the road to Emondi Village.

"From the reports received, it was revealed that the attack by the KKB caused Steven Makari (48), a carpenter, to die," said the Deputy Chief of Papua Police when confirmed by ANTARA in Jayapura, Sunday.

During the attack, said Brigadier General Pol. Faizal Rahmadani, the victim was with several of his colleagues. As soon as he heard the sound of gunfire, he immediately fled. The victim fell after being shot.

After no longer hearing gunshots, said the Deputy Chief of Police, the witness evacuated the victim to the Bilogai Health Center. The shooting was reportedly carried out by the Adu Wanimbo or Adu Magai group.

"Currently, the victim's body is still at the Bilogai Health Center, and it is scheduled that Monday (4/11) will be evacuated, then taken to his hometown, North Sulawesi, for burial," explained the Deputy Chief of Police of Papua.

When asked about a viral video showing an Inpres Yokatapa Elementary School (SD) student lying down in the classroom due to a gun battle between the security forces and the KKB, Brigadier General Pol. Faizal Rahmadani explained that it was two different cases.

"Indeed, there is a video circulating related to students at Yokatapa Inpres Elementary School who are lying on the floor in their class because there are gunshots," he said.

The Deputy Chief of Police emphasized, "Those two cases occurred on different days and when the video was recorded there were no casualties."

"Alhamdulillah, there were no casualties, the location of the gun battle was also relatively far from the school. However, gunshots during the shootout were heard," said Brigadier General Pol. Faizal Rahmadani.
