Prabowo Passes Five Defense Cooperation Laws

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto passed five laws on cooperation in the defense sector, respectively with India, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, and France.

Based on a copy of the Law which was monitored on the jdih.setneg.go.id page in Jakarta, Sunday, the five laws are the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 67 of 2024 concerning Ratification of Approval Between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of India concerning Cooperation in the Field of Defense.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 68 of 2024 concerning Ratification of Approval between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Brazilian Federative Republic on Defense-Regarded Cooperation.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 69 of 2024 concerning Ratification of Mutual Control Memorandums between the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Defense of the United Arab Emirates regarding Cooperation in the Defense Sector.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 70 of 2024 concerning Ratification of Approval between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Kingdom of Cambodia concerning Cooperation in the Defense Sector.

Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 71 of 2024 concerning Ratification of Approval between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Government of the Republic of France regarding Cooperation in the Defense Sector.

The five laws were passed by President Prabowo in Jakarta, dated October 28, 2024, and promulgated by the Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on the same date.

Previously, the Plenary Meeting of the DPR RI Closing the First Session Period of the 2024 '2025 Session Year Membership of the DPR RI 2019'2024 which was held at the end of September, approved five draft laws (RUU) regarding the ratification of international agreements in the field of defense into law.

At that time, Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Meutya said that international cooperation in the defense sector was to minimize potential threats, the defense industry's capabilities of a country, to the form of defense diplomacy.

"The element of defense diplomacy is the occurrence of cooperation in the defense sector with friendly countries, namely India, France, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, and Brazil," he said.

Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives hopes that the approval of the defense cooperation ratification bill with India, France, the United Arab Emirates, Cambodia, and Brazil can support increased cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries based on the principles of mutual benefit and respect for sovereignty, as well as the integrity of the regions of the two countries. brothers.
