Police Investigate Plastic Warehouse Fire In Banjarmasin

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Banjarmasin Police, Banjarmasin Police, South Kalimantan Police are investigating the fire of the Golden House plastic warehouse, for approximately 12 hours and claimed one death from the fire department.

The plastic warehouse fire occurred on Jalan Belitung Darat, Gang Emas Urai RT26 RW02, Kuin Cerucuk Village, West Banjarmasin District.

"For the death toll of one person named Muhiniddin, a member of Resque 05 Kenari, died while on duty to extinguish the fire that occurred," said West Banjarmasin Police Chief Kompol Aris Munandar in Banjarmasin, Sunday.

Aris said the fire started Saturday night at around 22.15 WITA until the fire began to be controlled or extinguished on Sunday morning around 11.00 WITA.

At that time, he said, the burning fire was difficult to extinguish by a combination of firefighters together with volunteers and the combined emergency because what caught fire was a plastic warehouse and the fire continued to grow widely into the warehousing area.

"From the data reports we received from Bhabinkamtibmas Kuin Cerucuk and members of the West Banjarmasin Police picket, those who came to the scene of the fire case did not spread to residents' houses because the location points had been blocked by the fire department," said the police chief.

The police chief also said that currently the crime scene has been installed with a police line and several firefighters are still in the field to continue to discuss it because there are still debris in the building that emits smoke.

The cause of the fire from the testimony of a witness, a night guard at the Golden House Mansah warehouse, said the fire was thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.

At that time the fire immediately grew and had scorched three warehouse units with an area of 30 x 50 meters, burning all the contents in the plastic warehouse.

"Meanwhile, the loss from the fire accident in the Golden House plastic warehouse owned by Aqiong (parents) and Willy (children) has yet to be estimated," said Kompol Aris.

To note in extinguishing the fire in the Golden House warehouse, received assistance from the Banjarbaru City fire department, Banjar Regency and from the fire department across Central Kalimantan province.
