Mount Lamongan In Lumajang Experiences An Increase In Seismic Activities, Monitored By 82 Earthquakes In A Month
JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said that the seismic activity of Mount Lamongan in Lumajang, East Java was detected to have experienced a significant increase, which was 82 times in the past month.
Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, M Wafid, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, November 2, said that the earthquake shock due to the movement of active faults in the Lamongan Mount complex has the potential for danger to cause ground cracks.
The Geological Agency noted that in mid-October - November 2024 the earthquake of Mount Lamongan consisted of 82 local tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 7-45 mm, a S-P of 1.5-36 seconds, and an earthquake length of 13-62.26 seconds. Then, a distant tectonic earthquake lasted 38 times.
The highest increase in local tectonic earthquakes to 63 times occurred on Friday (1/11) with a magnitude of duration (Md) between 0.5-2.5-2.5 seconds.
The Observation Post of Mount Lamongan in Gunung Desk Village, Klakah, Lumajang confirmed that the series of earthquakes were sourced or west of Mount Lamongan.
Due to this condition, the Geological Agency recommends to the public, visitors and tourists not to approach and or spend the night in the crater of Mount Lamongan until conditions are completely stable.

The government through the Lumajang BPBD is also asked to always coordinate with the Mount Lamongan Observation Post and the Volcanology and Mitigation Center (PVMBG) Geological Disaster of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to consider protection efforts for the community if the seismicity continues to show escalation.
However, the Geological Agency ensures that based on the results of visual and instrumental monitoring, the current volcanic activity of Mount Lamongan is still at Level I (Normal).
Monitoring posts found that in general the visuals of the volcano as high as 1,671 MDPL were clearly visible until it was covered in fog. The majority of the weather around Mount Lamongan was sunny until it rained with an air temperature of around 20-33°C, humidity of 44.9-100 percent, weak to strong winds to the north and east with air pressure of 957.6-964.3 mmHg.
