De Bruyne Signed A New Contract At Manchester City For The Next Four Years

JAKARTA - Kevin De Bruyne has signed a new contract with English Premier League leaders Manchester City until 2025.

The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder's contract remains more than two years away before agreeing a new deal with City.

De Bruyne has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and four League Cups since joining City from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015.

"This contract extension is a straightforward decision," De Bruyne said on Manchester City's official website, as quoted by the BBC on Wednesday.

"This football club is geared towards success. The club offers everything I need to make the most of my performance," he said.

De Bruyne has again played a key role in Pep Guardiola's side as they try to win four titles this season: the English Premier League, Champions League, League Cup and FA Cup.

Although he has been plagued by injury this season, De Bruyne has scored eight goals and provided 16 assists in 33 appearances.

He scored the opening goal in the First Leg of the Champions League quarter-final win against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday morning and was instrumental in creating Phil Foden's winning goal.

After signing a new contract, De Bruyne admits his focus now is on ensuring City end the season strongly.

Meanwhile, City's director of football, Txiki Begiristain, said De Bruyne's contract extension "was a very important moment" for the club.

"He (De Bruyne) is also an outstanding professional who was very dedicated to Manchester City during his time here," Begiristain said.

"We're glad he's our player, and I look forward to seeing him here during his career peak," he added.
