93 Rohingya Immigrants Landed In East Aceh, 6 Died
BANDA ACEH - Six Rohingya immigrants were found dead on the beach of Meunasah Hasan Village, Madat District, East Aceh Regency, Aceh Province. Acting (Plt) Head of the East Aceh Health Service Munawir stated that the bodies of the six immigrants were still at the location of the discovery on the beach.
"Their body has not been buried because of their status as foreign nationals, so certain procedures are needed before the funeral can be carried out," Munawir explained, quoted by ANTARA.
The East Aceh Health Office is currently coordinating with security forces and other related parties, such as immigration and international institutions that handle cross-border refugees.
"According to preliminary information, they died at sea and when found they were already on the beach along with dozens of other survivors. The police are currently investigating the cause of the deaths of the six immigrants," said Munawir.
Previously, as many as 93 Rohingya immigrants were found arriving at the beach of Meunasah Hasan Village, Madat District, East Aceh Regency.
Head of the Political, Government and Security Division of the National Unity and Political Agency of East Aceh Regency, Syamsul Bahri, stated that dozens of these immigrants were found landing on Thursday at around 04.00 WIB.
"Currently, our team is at the location to record Rohingya immigrants. Based on temporary data, there are about 93 immigrants," explained Syamsul Bahri.
According to initial reports, the immigrants got off the ship and swam towards the coast of Meunasah Hasan Village.

The local government, through the East Aceh National Unity and Political Agency, continues to coordinate with related parties, including further handling of immigrants.
"Further handling of them will be adjusted to the results of coordination with UNHCR, an international institution that handles inter-state refugees," added Syamsul Bahri.
