Jose Mourinho Angry With UEFA For Not Getting Fair Treatment

JAKARTA - Jose Mourinho believes he has not received fair treatment from UEFA like any other coach since the 2023 Europa League final.

While handling AS Roma, Mourinho last year was sentenced to four games accompanying the team by UEFA for verbally harassing referee Anthony Taylor.

This happened when Roma lost to his team on penalties from Sevilla in the 2022/2023 Europa League final in Budapest.

"My feeling is, I'm in trouble in Europe. I lost in the final in a way I still don't accept. Since then I've felt it (unfair from UEFA)."

"I don't want to be treated preferentially, I want to be treated honestly. That's all. So if I make a mistake, law and pay."

"If I don't make a mistake, let me calm down, but it's getting more difficult. Since the Budapest final, it's getting more and more difficult," Mourinho told Sky Sports.

Mourinho, who is now Fenerbahce coach, received a direct red card in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United in the Europa League season on October 25, 2024.

He was sent off after being involved in a fierce dispute with the referee when his team was denied an appeal for a penalty.

The incident also emphasized Mourinho's feeling of being treated unfairly when appearing in European tournaments.

"I deserve to be treated like anyone else. On the pitch, it doesn't matter whether you are Lionel Messi or it's the first time you play."

"The rules are the same for Messi and the young. For the coach, the rules are the same. It doesn't matter whether you are Carlo Ancelotti or a young coach who just started. Ancelotti must get the same attitude as young people."

"That's what I want for myself. That's what I didn't get (during the tournament in Europe)," Mourinho said again.

Because of this incident, Mourinho, who was still emotional, made a statement that he did not want to train the team playing in European tournaments.

However, after thinking again for a moment, he clarified his statement. Mourinho clearly doesn't want to coach a bottom team that doesn't have a chance to play in a European tournament.

"I will never join a team that struggles to avoid relegation. I will never join."

"I'm angry. I'm in my career to always be happy. The problem is, I'm currently playing in European tournaments, but I'm always angry."

"I'm not going to fight to avoid relegation. It's too difficult! To be honest, I'm sure it's the hardest thing. It's more difficult than playing for the title."

"It must be very difficult emotionally because it is something that changes life. I think it was brave people who did it," said Mourinho.
