Jerez And Portimao Become Alternatives If Valencia Cancels The Last Series Of MotoGP 2024

JAKARTA - The storm of funds that caused flash floods hit Valencia Province on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, local time.

The disaster then damaged a number of facilities and killed 72 people so far.

One of the important facilities affected by the flash floods is Ricardo Tormo's Circuit, Valencia.

In fact, the circuit will hold the final MotoGP 2024 series on November 17, 2024.

Video footage on social media shows severe damage to the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. The main entrance to the track was swept away by the flood and could not be passed.

The route, which is located near the main gate, was also completely destroyed. In addition, the external car parking lot of the circuit has been flooded.

"Yesterday was the worst day of my life. We were trapped like rats. Cars and garbage containers flowed on the streets. The water rose to three meters," said Ricardo Gabaldon, Utiel Mayor, a city in Valencia, describing the flash flood situation to RTVE.

This situation makes the Valencia 2024 MotoGP threatened to be canceled.

MotoGP organizers, Dorna Sports, have yet to make an official decision. However, there is a possibility to move the final MotoGP racing arena in 2024.

With about two weeks, other southern European circuits, such as Jerez or Portimao, have the potential to be ready on time to host the final MotoGP 2024 race.

The two alternative circuits also allow for racing with guests and spectators. Moreover, the race is the last series.

Jerez and Portimao were previously included in the 2024 MotoGP series. The Portuguese MotoGP in Portimao is the second series, while the Spanish MotoGP in Jerez is the fourth series of the season.

Currently, there are only Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia who are fighting on the MotoGP world champion track this season.

Jorge Martin has packed 453 points at the top of the drivers' standings. He is 17 points ahead of Bagnaia.

If Martin could not widen the distance to 38 points from Bagnaia at the Malaysian MotoGP at the Sepang Circuit, automatically the fight for the 2024 MotoGP world title would be determined in the final series which was actually held in Valencia.

The public is now waiting for Dorna Sports' decision regarding the final MotoGP 2024 series considering the duel between Martin and Bagnaia is still fierce.
