5 Conditions That Mark The Body Lack Of Nutrition
JAKARTA - Specialist doctor who handles various disorders in the digestive system or gastroeterolog in California, Dr. Saurabh Sethi highlighted five changes in the body indicating that there may be a shortage of things, such as iron, vitamin C, and calcium. Dr Sethi reveals the characteristics of brittle nails, joint clicks, and gray hair.
If not treated, these deficiencies can cause serious health problems such as headaches, fractures, and heart disease. Here are 5 signs of a body of malnutrition, as reported by VOI from the Daily Mail page on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Many of us are guilty of biting nails. But if it looks weak or easily broken, it can be a sign of a lack of protein and iron in food. The main shape of the nails is keratin, a protein that helps form hair tissue and the outermost layer of the skin, epidermis. Lack of protein can reduce the production of kelatin so that the nail structure decreases. While iron deficiency can lower oxygen levels in the nails which make it fragile.
Dr. Sethi said that the strains on the eyelids or limbs could be a sign of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is an important mineral that helps bone growth and maintenance, as well as nerve function and muscle contraction.

But not getting enough nutrition can cause too much calcium to flow into nerve cells. This makes it more active and causes susceptibility.
If the knee or joints often sound "click" or "krek", Sethi says that's a body sign of vitamin deficiency D3 or calcium, both are important to maintain bone and muscle health. The lack of these two nutrients can weaken the bones and joints, which causes inflammation and the sound of "scrats".
The presence of gray hair is inevitable. Although there are many reasons why since the 20s and 30s, Dr Sethi suggested vitamin deficiency may have something to do with it.
"This could indicate a lack of vitamin B12, which is very important for the production of red blood cells and oxygen transportation in hair follicles," said Sethi.
This can cause grayness at an early age. Dr Sethi also noted that early gray hair could be caused by a copper deficiency. He said that copper is'responsible to melanin production, which interferes with hair color.'
If you often find mysterious bruises, you may not get enough vitamin C. In addition to helping to improve the function of the immune cells, Dr Sethi said vitamin C is responsible for the formation of collagen, a protein that provides structure and support for the skin, bones, muscles, tendons, and other ikat tissues. Collagen deficiency makes blood vessels lose protective cushion from injury so that the body is easily bruised.
