Ketum PP Perbasi Baru Promises To Form The Indonesian Women's Basketball League
JAKARTA The new General Chairperson of the Central Board of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi), Budisatrio Djiwandono, promised to form a women's basketball league.
He conveyed this after he moved up to the helm of the federation at the PP Perbasi National Conference (Munas) at the Mercure Hotel, Kemayoran, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, evening WIB.
Budi said that the Indonesian women's basketball league must be held immediately. If possible, it will run according to the men's Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).
"We want the league to be professional for women as well," said Budi, who is the nephew of President Prabowo Subianto.
The Indonesian women's basketball league has actually rolled out. The 2020 edition of the Srikandi Cup was the last women's professional event to be held, but it was not over due to the corona pandemic.
Prior to that, the Indonesian women's basketball league competition titled Kobanita had also existed from 2001 to 2008. In addition, there were also WNBLs which took place in 2011-2015 before changing their names to WIBL in the 2016 season.

"There are actually many of our women's athletes who excel. Therefore, we have to create a forum so that female athletes can compete professionally," said Budi.
The plan to reorganize the women's basketball league has been sticking out since last year. However, until now there have been no signs of the event starting soon.

Meanwhile, Budi will serve as General Chair of PP Perbasi for the 2024-2028 term of service. He is the sole candidate who is advanced thanks to the support of 29 Provincial Management (Pengprov) and was elected by acclamation.
