EV Market Drops, Porsche Reshuffles Strategy With Expanding ICE Models In The Future
JAKARTA - A well-known auto brand from Germany, Porsche released several radical changes to its electrification strategy in response to the decline in sales of electric vehicles (EVs) and combustion engines (ICEs) which are increasingly in demand.
The manufacturer founded by Ferdinand Porsche is working on how to re-engineer a future car that has been designed as a pure EV and can accommodate hybrid powertrains.
Reporting from Carscoops, Tuesday, October 29, the next-generation 718 Boxster and Cayman models will be fully EV and plan to launch in the coming months. However, there is a potential for the model to be available in the ICE engine option.
Many customers in the premium and luxury segment looked at the combustion engine car, there was a clear trend, said Porsche's Chief Financial Officer, Lutz Meschke.

If the idea is approved, it will take years for the brand to redesign assuming the model provides financial benefits.
Another model that will be present as a pure EV is its newest flagship SUV with code K1, which is planned to launch in 2028. With that period of time, Porsche still has time to make it happen in a hybrid version.
In addition, Porsche will take advantage of the flexibility of its plant in Leipzig, Germany which can produce pure ICE, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and EV cars in one production line.
In terms of research and development, you will see more flexibility in the years to come. We will develop a new derivative combustion engine from our electric vehicle line to provide the right answer at customer request," added Meschke.
Previously, Porsche had planned 80 percent of its product lines to be pure electric vehicles (EVs) by the end of the decade. Meanwhile, another 20 percent will be present in the pure ICE or hybrid version.
