Gaza's Armistice Negotiations Are Predicted To Delay Until The Results Of The US Presidential Election Are Announced

JAKARTA - The ceasefire negotiations involving Hamas and Israeli negotiators are not expected to make significant progress until the winner in the United States (US) presidential election is announced.

Sources explaining the negotiations told CNN the final round of negotiations, which began in Qatar's capital, Doha on Sunday, did not focus on achieving the release of hostages and the ceasefire agreement, but rather on starting the process.

The discussions also include war in Lebanon, as well as Iran and its regional influence.

Another round of talks is expected to take place in a few days, the source said. The US election is scheduled for November 5.

As previously reported, Qatar resumed talks with political bureau Hamas in Doha following the assassination of leader of the group Yahya Sinwar in Gaza last week.

"We have held several meetings with them in recent days; I believe that there is no clarity on what will happen in the future," said Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Hamas' position according to Al Thani regarding the ceasefire and hostage-taking has not changed since the last meditation effort.

Some time ago, senior Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya said the hostages would only be released if the war in Gaza ended, Israeli forces withdrew from the enclave and Palestinian prisoners were released.
