Australian Powered Parties Lose Elections In Queensland State

JAKARTA - Australia's ruling Labor Party lost elections in Queensland, ending nearly a decade of power in the state, according to local media reports on Sunday, October 27.

The conservative Liberal National Party (LNP) won 48 seats in last Saturday's election, one seat more than the 47 seats needed to take the majority, ABC News reported.

Prime-led Labor Party Prime Minister Anthony Albanese won 30 seats, Australian Party Katters (KAP) won three seats, while the Greens and One Nation each got one seat, along with independent candidate Sandy Bolton.

The Labor Party lost 21 seats that moved to LNP.

LNP leader David Crisafulli claimed victory on Saturday night, while Steven Miles, Queensland's prime minister, who will step down, acknowledged defeat and congratulated Crisafulli for his victory.
