Elon Musk Believes That The Driver's Era Will End Soon With Electric Cars Without Steering
JAKARTA - The world of driving as it is known today is considered to be heading towards the end of the road. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is famous for his futuristic vision, said that the car model with the driver will end soon and become the past. On the other hand, autonomous electric vehicles without steering wheels and brake pedals will replace traditional systems.
"It is clear that the future is an autonomous electric vehicle," Musk said, quoted by Fortune, Saturday, October 26.
Musk then compared the vehicle with the horse which used to be the main means of transportation, but now it's just a hobby.
Driving a gasoline-fueled vehicle in the future will be like riding a horse or using a folding phone. Yes, but rare and special," Musk said.
Tesla's big move towards the future was marked by the launch of Cybercab and Robovan, a fleet of taxis and autonomous vans introduced earlier this month. Although initially it had drawn criticism for only being tested on closed lanes, Musk said the vehicle had now been piloted by Tesla employees on the streets of San Francisco.

Musk emphasized that all Tesla vehicles in the future will be fully autonomous. Of the 7 million Tesla cars currently on the road, most of them have been designed to become driverless vehicles with full self-driving software (FSD) updates.
"Imagine, you can get through a full year without even touching the wheel," Musk said confidently.
