Ignasius Jonan Inaugurated As Minister Of Transportation In Today's Memory, October 27, 2014

JAKARTA - Today, 10 years ago, 27 October 2014, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated Ignasius Jonan as Minister of Transportation (Menhub). Jokowi hopes that Jonan can bring the Ministry of Transportation to develop rapidly.

Previously, Jonan was known for his brilliant leadership on the Indonesian Railway (KAI). He was able to bring KAI in a better direction. Jonan realized the KAI narrative that wanted to make services good and customers happy. Jonan's breakthrough was later recognized throughout Indonesia.

Trains are known as the mainstay of transportation for many people. However, that does not mean that KAI services are good. KAI services are never satisfactory. People still take the train because they don't have other alternatives. If that alternative exists, the train will not be used.

The factor that makes KAI the way in place is corruption. The narrative was also followed by an opaque procurement system of goods. Ignasius Jonan was initially sad and not playing. He saw that KAI needed big changes.

He who was appointed as the leader of KAI from 2009 tried to make a breakthrough. At first, he did not believe that KAI management would change. Moreover, the idea of a jonan is considered grandiose to change the orientation of the organization from product oriented to customer focused.

Jonan is considered to be confused because of the absence of large funds. Jonan considers his criticism as just a wind. He continues to work. He started visiting the stations to get an idea.

He feels for himself how the comfort of customers is the umpteenth number, not the main thing. Jonan took long-distance trains to inner-city trains in Jakarta. The mapping brings results.

Jonan made his revolution by making high-ranking railway officials go down to the stations. Jonan also implemented the picket system between them. He wanted them to experience for themselves the inconvenience of the train so that it could produce proper policies.

KAI has also started to improve the quality of its services. The station is repaired, the carriages are cleaned, and the trains in the city of the economy are removed. Only then did the joint control the passengers. There is no more story of passengers climbing the roof of the train.

"Frankly, it's a bit late, but there are three things (priority). First, we try to clean all stations. Stations in Java are relatively clean, Sumatra is lacking this year we concentrate in Sumatra. Second, orderly. When talking clean and orderly, sky is the limit, because (the size is) qualitative.

"Third, this year for the next three years there will be an extension of the platform, so that passengers do not accumulate. Make an underpass, so that people don't go back and forth via rail, which is dangerous. We will expand the station and add facilities," wrote Anandari Karina Anom and his friends in Tempo magazine entitled Ignasius Jonan: Train Is an Indonesia Storefront (2012).

Jonan's success in leading KAI reached the ears of President Jokowi, who had just been inaugurated. The Harum of Jonan's name changing KAI is considered a big achievement. Jokowi also thought about providing Jonan with a higher job and trust.

At its peak, Jonan was invited by Jokowi to join as Minister of Transportation. He agreed to the invitation. At its peak, Jonan was appointed by Jokowi as Minister of Transportation on 27 October 2014 at the State Palace, Jakarta. Jokowi believes that Jonan can bring fresh air to the Ministry of Transportation.

"I was summoned by the President last night and invited to talk various kinds, including one of them regarding transportation, that's all. Yes, at that time I immediately answered that I was willing. I think if the responsibility is much bigger as a minister, if you ask what is good, it's irrelevant, if it is mandated, it must be carried out as well as possible".

"My family supports me, they just want me to be better than before. If the problem is rare to go home or not, then I will arrange time for the family. I don't mind being called by the Minister, but it's ridiculous," said Jonan two days after being sworn in as quoted on the 6.com coverage page, October 29, 2014.
