Indonesia Condemns Israel's Attack On Iran That Violates International Law

Jakarta - Indonesia condemned Israel's military offensive against Iran and stated that the action was a violation of international punishment.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) in a statement on the official X account, @Kemlu_RI on Saturday, October 26, 2024, the increase and expansion of the conflict also demonstrates Israel's neglect of international law completely.

"All parties must also exercise maximum restraint and avoid actions that can increase tensions and cause further instability in the region," said the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement.

Indonesia also emphasized that Israel's illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories is the root cause of conflict problems in the Middle East.

Indonesia sees that the only way to create peace in the region is to create an independent Palestinian state within the framework of the Two-State Solution.

Therefore, Indonesia emphasizes the importance of the UN Security Council to consider further steps to end the illegal occupation.

Indonesia also urged the UN Security Council to carry out its responsibilities according to the UN Charter to stop as soon as possible all forms of violence perpetrated by Israel, including genocide against the Palestinian People in Gaza and attacks on UNIFIL forces in Lebanon.

In the early hours of Saturday, Israel carried out airstrikes against Iranian military facilities in retaliation for Iran's missile attack on Israel on October 1, 2024.

The Iranian missile attack on October 1, 2024 was in retaliation for the assassination of a Hamas political leader in Tehran in July 2024 and the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Beirut last month.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry on Saturday said it was based on the rights inherent in its legitimate defense, which is also stated in Article 51 of the UN Charter. Iran has the right and obligation to defend itself against Israeli aggression.

Mutual attacks between Israel and Iran escalated in 2024 after Tel Aviv bombed the Iranian Embassy in Syria on April 1, 2024, killing a number of senior military officials.

Iran took martial action two weeks later by launching hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles into Israel.
