PSG Brings Wage Dispute With Kylian Mbappe To Court

JAKARTA - Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) will bring wages disputes with Kylian Mbappe to court.

This was done by PSG after Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) - the French professional league body - decided to support Mbappe on Friday, October 25, 2024, local time.

French media reported Mbappe, who had not commented on the dispute, sought around 55 million euros in salaries and bonuses the club said he owed him.

However, the Ligue 1 champion did not want to pay what Mbappe claimed because the 25-year-old player's contract was changed legally.

In addition, PSG assessed that Mbappe reneged on his commitment to leaving the club to join Real Madrid during the summer transfer window.

PSG said last month that Mbappe had turned down an offer from LFP to mediate this issue.

"The club must pay the salary it claims. This decision cannot be appealed, but can be referred to the FFF Executive Committee (France Football Federation)," the LFP told Reuters.

As a result, PSG confirmed that they would be forced to take the case to a competent court while still trying to find a peaceful solution with Mbappe.

"What is being debated. In the end, it will be heard before the right court. That the original contract was legally changed in August 2023 related to the 2024/2025 season."

"The full player was also recognized, including in January 2024 until the player then decided to cancel all his commitments when he left the club," said a PSG spokesman.

"As a matter of law and fact, players have made clear public and personal commitments that are repeatedly requested to be respected by the club."

"Players have been given unprecedented benefits by clubs for seven years in Paris.

"The club hopes that this basic commitment is respected. However, the club is forced to be seen by a court that is competent in bad faith towards players because the player is sadly trying to pursue this elusive dispute, for himself and for French football," said another PSG spokesman.

Meanwhile, representatives of Mbappe were not willing to be asked for comment. In January 2024, Mbappe also said he made a deal with PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who would protect all parties and preserve the club's composure for the challenges ahead.
