KPK Hopes MA Improves After 3 Judges Who Free Ronald Tannur Arrested

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the arrests of three judges who acquitted Gregorius Ronald Tannur should have made the Supreme Court (MA) clean. This incident should be a concern, including closing the gap for corruption.

"Of course this needs to be a concern at the Supreme Court as well as the judges who oversee which loopholes (corruption, ed) can be closed," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika to reporters, Friday, October 25.

Tessa said the anti-corruption commission was concerned about the arrests of the judges. He hopes that the actions of the three can be proven.

"That from a judicial point of view there are still corruptors who want to interfere with the judge's objectivity in deciding cases," said the spokesman with the investigator's background.

"We also appreciate the Attorney General's Office for making arrests," continued Tessa.

As previously reported, the Attorney General's Office arrested three judges who were suspected of accepting bribes from Ronald Tannur who were acquitted in the murder case of Dini Sera Afriyanti. They are Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo.

They were charged with Article 5 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 6 paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 12 letter c of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In addition, the Attorney General's Office also arrested Lisa Rahmat, who is Ronald Tannur's lawyer. He bribed the Surabaya District Court based on someone's orders.

As a result of her actions, Lisa was charged with Article 5 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 6 paragraph 1 letter A of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
