Firefighters Use PPE when Evacuating Vespa Wasp Nest

JAKARTA - Fire and Rescue Sub-dept. Officers of the Duren Sawit Sector, East Jakarta, evacuated a wasp nest attached to the roof of the ceiling of a resident's house on Jalan Kampung Malaka, Pondok Kopi, Duren Sawit District, East Jakarta.

The wasp's nest was evacuated because it was feared that it would endanger the safety of residents. The reason is, many local residents have been victims of the wasp's sting.

Although small in size, the evacuation of the wasp nest requires extra expertise. Officers are forced to use stairs and are very careful when evacuating wasp nests.

Officers also evacuated with complete personal protective equipment (PPE) to avoid the risk of wasp stings.

"So we received a direct report earlier. We evacuated the wasp nest which is located on the roof of the house, this type of wasp is very dangerous," said Head of the Gulkarmat Rescue Team, Duren Sawit Sector, Hendra to reporters, Friday, October 25.

When the evacuation process was carried out, the officers had to wear thick clothes and be neatly covered so that the face was covered.

"Alhamdulillah, the evacuation went smoothly, there were no obstacles. Our members survived, there were no incidents at all," he said.

The existence of a wasp nest with a diameter of 40 cm in the roof of an empty house in this densely populated settlement makes residents around it worried.

"The diameter was approximately 40 centimeters. The obstacle is that road access is very difficult. We used the stairs to go to the wasp point first," he said.

This evacuation process was carried out by 4 firefighters from the Duren Sawit Sector, East Jakarta.
