Police Said, Don't Worry About The 212 Reunion Event At Monas

JAKARTA - The Police Chief of Metro Jaya Inspector General Gatot Eddy confirmed that there would be no riots during the 212 Reunion in the Monas area, Central Jakarta.

He said the public need not worry about this event with the theme of Maulid Akbar, even though it was held in the city center and on weekdays, on Monday, December 2.

"We don't need to be disturbed by these activities, we are worried about these activities, no. This is a religious activity that is usually carried out," said Gatot.

"212 religious activities, so ordinary activities," he added.

Meanwhile, Karo Penmas DivHumas Polri Brigadier General Pol Argo Yuwono said a number of elements of society had sent letters for their permits. However, the permit to hold the event awaits the recommendation of the Central Jakarta Metro Police to proceed to the Polda Metro Jaya and the Police Headquarters.

"Polda Metro Jaya will send its recommendation to Baintelkam (Security Intelligence Agency) Polri. So later from Intelligence will issue the notification," said Argo.

The 212 action was held for the first time in 2016 related to pressure to carry out the punishment of DKI Jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) who was accused of blaspheming religion. The accusation was directed against Ahok during the Jakarta Pilkada contest.
