Left Behind First, Hattrick Vinicius Takes Madrid To Destroy Dortmund

JAKARTA - Real Madrid trailed 2-0 before destroying Borussia Dortmund 5-2 in the Champions League match. In a duel at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Madrid, Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in the morning WIB, forward Vinicus Junior scored a hat trick that brought Los Merengues to ninth.

Dortmund had surprised Madrid in the rematch of the 2024 Champions League final. The German Bundesliga team started the match brilliantly.

Dortmund, who topped the Champions League standings, was about to avenge a 2-0 loss in the final in a two-goal lead in the first half. But Madrid managed to get up to catch up and turn things around.

The victory over Dortmund made Madrid shot to ninth by pocketing six points. With a new format in the Champions League, only the top eight teams qualified for the round of 16.

Meanwhile, Dortmund was forced to lose his position at the top. Now, Dortmund has dropped to fifth with point six. Only, Dortmund had a better goal difference than Madrid to occupy a higher position than their rivals.

In that match, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti returned to use the 4-3-3 scheme. Previously, Ancelotti played three defenders in a 2-1 win over Clta Vigo in the Spanish La Liga competition.

Madrid actually started the match well and dominated. Only, the back players missed their goal. Even Dortmund managed to lead 2-0 in just four minutes.

Winger Donyell Malen managed to break the deadlock when he broke into Thibaut Courtois' goal after completing an assist from Serho Guirass in the 30th minute.

Not long after or to be precise in the 34th minute, Jamie Gittens solidified Dortmund's advantage and silenced Madrid fans. This goal from England U-21 made Dortmund close the first half with a 2-0 advantage.

Entering the second half, Madrid was able to get up well. They showed a neat and solid game organization that made it difficult for Dortmund to maintain the game as in the previous round.

Moreover, coach Nuri Sahin seemed to blunder when two goalscorers, Malen Gittens, were pulled out. Sahin tried to maintain the lead by including defender Waldemar Anton and defensive midfielder Pascal Gross.

This was Sahin's mistake which was paid dearly because Madrid managed to penetrate the Dortmund defense. The patience of the Madrid players was paid when defender Antonio Ruediger's header broke the deadlock in the 60th minute.

The goal made Madrid even more aggressive in suppressing opponents. As a result, only two minutes later, Vinicius made the score change 2-2.

When the match entered the final round, Madrid was unstoppable. Front player Lucas Vazquez successfully gave Madrid a 3-2 lead in the 83rd minute.

Next, Vinicius' two goals completed Madrid's victory. He created his second goal in the 86th minute. Furthermore, the Brazilian forward completed the hat trick in injury time. The score changed to 5-2 for Madrid and lasted until the game was over.

"(The secret can rise) is to believe in ourselves. We know we play at home with the support of fans. So anything can happen," said Vinicius.

"When we entered the dressing room, we were all silent and fully listened to the explanation from the coach. But only one thing we remember is that he said, 'If we score just one goal, we will rise'. And we managed to do it," he said thanking fans for their support, especially when Los Blancos were in a position behind.

"We thank the fans who provide full support. But we also have to improve ourselves and should play like that from the first minute," Vinicius replied again.
