Floods In Murung Raya, Central Kalimantan Expand To Make Road Access Paralyzed
JAKARTA - Floods in Murung Raya Regency, Central Kalimantan caused thousands of houses to be submerged due to overflowing Barito River water, even road access in Puruk City, Cahulumpuh.
"Some of the points in the city of Puruk Cahu cannot be passed because the water level reaches 50 centimeters," said BPBD Murung Raya Rofik officer as reported by ANTARA, Monday, October 21.
He explained that the roads that could not be passed were Ahmad Yani Street, near Dirung Bajo Bridge, Ahmad Yani Street at three intersections Pulo Basat Street, and Jalan Jendral Sudirman, in front of the Al-Istiqlal Grand Mosque.
Inside the city of Puruk Cahu some road points, it can't even be passed by vehicles, either cars or motorbikes.
To get around this, several groups of residents provide motorcycle crossing services in the form of boats or rafts made of tree trunks.
Head of BPBD Murung Raya Fitrianul Fahriman said the flooding in the area began on Friday (18/10), while until now the conditions are increasingly widespread.
"The data collected as many as six of the 10 sub-districts in this district have felt the impact of the flood. For temporary data, 16,623 people were affected and 4,625 houses were submerged," said Fitrianul.
Floods in Murung Raya, the northernmost district of Central Kalimantan, also have an impact on neighboring districts located in the downstream or south of the Barito River, such as North Barito and South Barito.
"Flooding in Murung Raya will flow downstream so that it will also inundate the North Barito and South Barito areas," said Roby, a resident of Puruk Cahu.
