Jokowi Asks For Electricity, Repair The NTT Internet Network, Including Logistics And Fuel Supplies

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) asked the Ministry of Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono to accelerate infrastructure improvements, including telecommunications networks that were affected by the disaster in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

He conveyed this when giving directions at a limited meeting to discuss disaster management in NTB and NTT Provinces via a video conference at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 6.

"This is the Minister of Public Works again, to speed up the repair of damaged infrastructure", said Jokowi as posted on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday, April 6.

This order was given after the former governor of DKI Jakarta saw that many infrastructures were damaged as a result of being hit by flash floods and landslides in the two provinces.

"I saw several bridges collapsed, as well as access roads," he said.

Not only that, but Basuki also received orders to improve several things including the electricity network, communications, and distribution of fuel oil (BBM). This must be done so that people affected by the disaster can get the assistance they need.

"Immediately restore the electricity network, telecommunications network, internet network, as well as logistics distribution, and fuel. So, this assistance can be immediately distributed to people who are victims of the disaster," said Jokowi.

Jokowi also ordered the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Doni Monardo together with the local government to immediately record the points of evacuation. It aims to ensure the necessary logistics.

"Immediately the data for the evacuation points, confirm the logistics, the tents, the field kitchen to meet the basic needs of the refugees as well as the needs of babies and children, especially clean water and toilets", he said.

Previously reported, data from the BNPB Operations Control Center as of Monday, April 5 at 23.00 WIB The total number of victims in the NTT flood disaster was 128 people who died. The details are Lembata Regency 67 people, East Flores 49 people, and Alor 12 people.

The total number of missing victims reached 72 people, with details of 28 people from Alor Regency, Flores Timur 23 people, and Lembata 21 people.

Also, 2,019 families or 8,424 residents were displaced and 1,083 families or 2,683 other residents were affected. Local governments continue to update data from rapid assessments in the field. The people who fled were scattered in five districts in the NTT Province.
