JIIPE Boss Ensures Operational Activities Run Stable After Freeport Smelter Fire In Gresik

JAKARTA - Java Integrated Industrial and Port Estate (JIIPE) confirmed that all operational activities in industrial areas will continue to run normally and safely after the fire incident that occurred in the sulfate smelter acid unit of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) on October 14.

The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, confirmed that his party had coordinated with the President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia, Tony Wenas, and ensured that the situation on the ground was well controlled. There were no casualties in this incident, and thorough investigative steps are being taken to determine the cause of the fire.

President Director of JIIPE, Bambang Soetiono, stated that industrial estates remain conducive.

"Security and security remain our top priority. We are grateful for the quick work of the Freeport emergency response team as well as support from the government and local security forces, so that the fire can be extinguished immediately," Bambang said in a statement to the media, Friday, October 18.

Tony Wenas said that the fire did not have a negative impact on the surrounding community and the environment.

"All employees are in a safe condition, and we appreciate the assistance from various parties in handling this, including local governments, security forces, JIIPE, and other parties who have worked together to ensure the situation is under control," he said.

As an industrial area that has been designated as a Special Economic Zone, JIIPE is also a National Vital Object.

With this status, JIIPE has very strict security and safety protocols to ensure operational sustainability and stability throughout the region.

JIIPE management continues to coordinate with related parties to ensure conditions in the Gresik Special Economic Zone remain safe, and support the sustainability of industrial operations for tenants in the region.
