Indonesia-Chinese Media Cooperation: Building A Partnership For The Joint Future

JAKARTA The Press of Indonesia and China have agreed to continue cooperation in building good relations between the two countries through quality journalism. Both also emphasize the importance of maintaining regional and global harmony and stability.

The agreement was reached in a meeting between the General Chair of the Indonesian Cyber Media Network (JMSI) Teguh Santosa with the Central PWI management and the Executive Secretary of the Chinese Journalists Association (ACJA) Tian Yuhong in Beijing, Monday, October 14, 2024. This meeting took place at the ACJA office, Dongcheng District, as part of a visit from the Indonesian media delegation to China for a week. Apart from Beijing, delegates also visited Harbin and Daqing in Helongjiang Province.

During the meeting, Teguh Santosa, who was accompanied by the Chairman of the JMSI Foreign Sector, Yophiandi Kurniawan and Plt. Chairman of JMSI Jakarta Wayan Sudana, together with the management of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), among others, General Treasurer M. Nasir, Chairman of Asset Management Untung Kurniadi, and Chairman of PWI South Kalimantan Zainal Helmie, exchanged information about the development of journalism in both countries. The main focus of discussion is the role of digital media and the challenge of realizing quality journalism in the era of modern information.

According to Teguh, JMSI is here to respond to the rapid development of cyber media in Indonesia. This organization is expected to be able to help its members become a professional and healthy press company in a business manner, thus producing quality journalistic products and not being a source of hoaxes and hate speech. "We want to ensure that cyber media in Indonesia is a pillar of reliable information," Teguh said in a written statement received in Jakarta, Friday, October 18.

Tian Yuhong also introduced the history and role of ACJA which was founded in 1937. He explained how China used the development of the internet for media transformation. Tian emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of press works, which are supervised by the ethics committee at ACJA. "Chinese journalists report honestly and avoid the spread of hatred," Tian said.

Both sides agree that the exchange of information and media cooperation can be a solution to facing global challenges. Tian emphasized that despite the challenges, friendship between Indonesia and China continues to grow. Media cooperation between the two countries not only increases mutual understanding, but also contributes positively to bilateral relations," he added.

Tian also expressed his appreciation to the Indonesian press for its contribution in strengthening relations between the two nations. "Thank you for the role of Indonesian media in promoting mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries," concluded Tian.
