Worldcoin Approaches Target 1 Billion Verified Users

JAKARTA - The Worldcoin crypto project, formed by Sam Altman and Alex Blania, is now getting closer to its target of getting 1 billion users. On October 17, Altman and Blania announced an important update regarding their efforts to increase the number of users and ensure human identity verification through blockchain technology. Currently, Worldcoin, which has changed its name to World Network, has managed to collect 15 million users, with about 7 million of them already verified.

Since its introduction five years ago, the World Network began its journey with World ID as a solution to proof of human identity in the digital era. The project then launched their original token, Worldcoin (WLD), which was released last year.

Now, the main focus of the development team is to scale up and expand network decentralization to achieve an ambitious target of 1 billion verified users. Blania, who also serves as CEO of Tools for Humanity, emphasized the importance of the third phase of this project, namely expanding user coverage globally.

Introduces New Orb

In its latest update, Sam Altman, also known as the founder of OpenAI, highlighted the important role of the World Network as the basic layer of human identity in cyberspace, especially amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI). To support this plan, the World Network team introduced the latest version of the Orb, a device used to scan eye slices to verify the unique identity of each user. Production of this device is now being distributed globally as an effort to expand network decentralization.

Not only that, these Orb devices will be placed in cafes and other public spaces, and can even be ordered according to requests such as ordering fast food. This feature is expected to accelerate the adoption of technology among the wider community. The new Orb device is expected to be available in the spring of 2025.

In addition, the World Network also introduces Deep Face technology, which will integrate World ID with users' faces to prevent data abuse such as deep fake, which is increasingly booming. Other updates include the development of the World App app, which will be equipped with a super mini-app that offers digital wallet services as well as a vault to store crypto assets with passive interest. The app also allows users to shop and send money globally at low or even free of charge.
