PIS Gandeng Pertamina NRE Green Cooperation In Maritime Sector

JAKARTA - Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (Pertamina NRE) signed a collaboration with PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS), Sub Holding Integrated Marine and Logistics from Pertamina regarding the provision of green energy.

This collaboration aims to strengthen the synergy between PIS and PNRE in developing a renewable energy-based transportation business, especially related to the transportation of green hydrogen and other sustainable fuels.

Pertamina NRE CEO, John Anis, said this collaboration was based on several factors, namely, Indonesia's very strategic geographical position on international shipping routes.

"Indonesia's position in international shipping routes will provide great opportunities to develop a sustainable fuel business in the global maritime sector," said John, Thursday, October 17.

Not only that, Based on projections from the Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), demand for green hydrogen is expected to increase dramatically, with the shipping sector expected to consume about 6 million tons of green hydrogen, especially in the form of methanol, every year in 2028.

In addition, based on a feasibility study conducted by PNRE, it shows that the cost of hydrogen transport, both in ammonia and methanol, accounts for a significant portion in the landed cost of hydrogen (LCOH) in the target market. This collaboration is expected to reduce transportation costs and create efficiency.

PIS CEO Yoki Firnandi said that as part of the Pertamina Group, PIS is ready to support the development of new and renewable energy to expand this business portfolio in the future.

"The collaboration between Pertamina Group is very necessary, so that we can work on all the potential and _opportunity_ of this business without reducing the _competitiveness of course. PIS is ready to support starting from transportation needs for distribution, terminals, and ports related to logistics and sea transportation sectors," he said.

In addition to the transportation business, Yoki continued, to prove a commitment in developing the energy transition business is currently being worked on by the Jakarta Integrated Green Terminal project which in the future can be optimized for carbon storage facilities, LNG, as well as other needs that can be optimized by PNRE such as; bioethenol, ammonia, hydrogen, and others.
