Israel Claims No Intention To Injure UN Peace Forces, Accuses Hezbollah Of Deliberately Making UNIFIL Personnel Shields

JAKARTA - Israel insists it has no intention of harming UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Israeli Foreign Minister Katz said Israel attaches great importance to the activities of UN troops in Lebanon and has no intention of harming its organization or personnel.

The United Nations says the Israeli military has opened fire on its peacekeeping forces, forcibly entering the base, stopping important logistics movements.

The Israeli military has also injured dozens of its troops in southern Lebanon in recent weeks.

The head of European Union diplomat Josep Borrell previously insisted attacking UN forces was "completely unacceptable."

Katz on Wednesday, October 16 accused Hezbollah of using UNIFIL personnel as human shields.

"Hezbollah deliberately opened fire on IDF soldiers from locations near UNIFIL's position to create friction," he said.

Katz emphasized that Israel will continue to make every effort to avoid UNIFIL losses while coordinating with UNIFIL commanders and in accordance with international law.
