Chairman Of The Legislation Body Of DPR Proposes To Change Title Of Alcoholic Drinks Bill: From 'Prohibition' To 'Restriction'

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) DPR RI Supratman Andi Agtas proposed changing the title of the Draft Bill on the Prohibition of Alcoholic Drinks to the Bill on the Regulation or Restriction of Alcoholic Drinks. Because so far there have been many cases of excessive consumption so that people experience addiction.

"I propose to change the title to regulations or restrictions on alcoholic drinks", Supratman said at the DPR Baleg Meeting, at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, April 5.

Besides, Supratman assessed that there should be regulations regarding the rehabilitation process for someone who is addicted to the bill.

"Rehabilitation is important. We cannot deny that a lot of alcohol consumption is excessive, then addicted and clinically ill, so it must be rehabilitated", said the Gerindra politician.

Supratman said that all members of Baleg agreed that alcoholic drinks must be regulated and their use limited. This is because the losses arising from the free circulation of alcoholic beverages have an impact on several aspects of people's lives.

However, about the interests of the Indonesian tourism industry, it is better if the issue of prohibition is regulated to limit the circulation of alcoholic drinks so as not to overdo it.

"We have to find a balance point, on the one hand, there are disadvantages from alcoholic drinks. But on the other hand, it is related to tourists who come to Indonesia, therefore alcoholic drinks need to be limited and the amount must be controlled so as not to overdo it", he said.
