TNI Runs River And Lake Cleanliness Programs Throughout Indonesia

JAKARTA - The TNI has proven its commitment to help clean up garbage in watersheds and lakes throughout Indonesia. Army Chief of Staff of the TNI, Maruli Simanjuntak said the commitment was an effort to help the government protect the surrounding environment so that it could have a good impact on the survival of the community, especially those living around the area.

"For outside Jakarta, we have also carried out programs such as Ciliwung Bening, one of which is currently being worked on in the Lake Toba area in North Sumatra," Maruli said after directly reviewing the cleaning of waste in the Ciliwung River around Tambora District, West Jakarta, Jakarta, quoted from ANTARA, Sunday.

He said that in the supervolcano lake area, the TNI has managed to transport more than 70 tons of hyacinth and garbage per day using three pontoon boats to draw garbage and one land surveyor.

"In the lake, there are a lot of hyacinth, up to 14 trucks a day with 4 to 6 tons each and that's still from three pounds and one surveyor," he said.

Maruli hopes that the success of cleaning the Citarum River in West Java can inspire all parties, including the internal ranks of the TNI.

"We will continue to carry out similar programs in the future and continue to evaluate them," he said.

Meanwhile, the Ciliwung Bening program is one of the mainstay activities of the TNI to clean rivers in Jakarta.

The program started from October 1 to 25 and cleaning was not only carried out in watersheds (DAS), but also in public facilities and social facilities, such as places of worship around rivers.

Activities are divided into three main sectors under Korem 051/WKT, Korem 052/WKR, and Kodim 0501/JP, with a total clean area of 80.3 kilometers.

The total number of personnel involved is 35,675 people who are members of the Army (AD), Navy (AL), and Air Force (AU), and use tens of tons of garbage and conveyors.
