KPK Says Fresh Graduate Officers Can Be A Solution To Prevent Extortion In Rutan Terulang

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will ask the Directorate General of PAS of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to send new graduates as officers in detention centers. This step is considered a way to prevent repeated illegal levies (extortion) practices.

"We are also trying to ask people who, for example, recently graduated from their education," said KPK Secretary General Cahya H. Harefa to reporters quoted on Friday, October 11.

"These new graduates are expected to be educated to have more integrity," continued Cahya. The wish has been coordinated with the Directorate General of PAS after the extortion case at the KPK Detention Center was revealed.

"We are coordinating with the Directorate General of PAS. We are still in the process of continuing to finalize," he said.

In addition, the KPK is also reviewing whether or not the addition of surveillance cameras or CCTV in detention centers is necessary. The hope is that the activities of the officers and detainees inside can be monitored optimally.

"Regarding the use of CCTV, we have also done it. We will review it again if necessary to increase it," said Cahya.

Previously reported, the KPK processed 15 of its employees related to the alleged extortion at the KPK detention center. They are currently undergoing trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court.

Those who sit as defendants are Hengki as ASN / Coordinator of Security and Order (Kamtib) of the KPK Detention Center for the period 2018-2022; Head of the 2022-present KPK Detention Center Achmad Fauzi; Hired Civil Servant (PNYD) assigned as Security Officer on behalf of Deden Rochendi, Sopian Hadi, Ristanta (also served as Acting. KPK Karutan in 2021).

Then the PNYD who was assigned as the KPK Detention Center Branch Officer on behalf of Ari Rahman Hakim, Agung Nugroho, Eri Angga Permana, Muhammad Ridwan.

Furthermore, KPK Detention Center Branch Officers on behalf of Suherlan, Ramadhan Ubaidillah A, Mahdi Aris, Wardoyo, Muhammad Abduh, and Ricky Rachmawanto were also tried. Hengki et al are said to have received Rp6.3 billion in the 2019-2023 period.
