Trans Papua Poros Jayapura-Keerom Road Disconnects Due To Floods
JAKARTA - The Trans Papua road on the Jayapura-Keerom axis was cut off due to floods that hit the Keerom Regency area, including along the Trans Papua road.
As reported by Antara, Sunday, April 4, Chief of Police Keerom AKBP Emile Reisitei Hartanto told Antara on Sunday that the heavy rains that had occurred since Friday, April 2 had caused the Skamto river to now overflow onto the road.
The overflow of water was quite swift, besides inundating the roads, residents' houses, and gardens in several locations.
As a result of the flood, the traffic flow was temporarily diverted through the back lane, namely from the Yonif 751/VJS Rifle Company.
"If you want to go to the Keerom area, there will be members of the National Police who will direct and guard near the Senapan Company", Hartanto admitted while admitting that this flood was the second after the same incident in early February 2021.
Currently, the Keerom Regional Government has assisted residents whose houses are submerged in water, such as eating food and drinking water.
The disaster post has been established, namely in the scout building which is located at an altitude, but the water recedes quickly when the rain stops, said the Police Chief.
Until now, it has not been confirmed how many residents' houses were submerged due to flooding in Keerom Regency, while during the floods in February, 1,155 households were recorded whose houses were submerged.
