East Flores Flash Flood Update: 20 Dead Victims
JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Flores Regency reported an increase in the number of victims found due to flash floods that occurred in the early hours of this morning.
Until this afternoon, at 11.00 WIB, the Head of Disaster Data and Communication Agency for Disaster Raditya Jati received the latest information after the flash flood. Currently, 20 residents have died.
"The local BPBD reported 20 dead, 9 injured and 5 missing," said Raditya in his statement, Sunday, April 4.
Raditya said the areas affected by flash floods were in two villages, namely Lamanele Village in Ile Boleng District and Waiburak Village, East Adonara District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province.
In details, the victim died and five injured residents were identified in Lamanele Village. Meanwhile, in Waiburak Village, East Adonara District, two residents were reported missing. A total of 4 injured residents have been treated at the local puskesmas.
Meanwhile, three residents who were also reported missing were in Oyang Barang Village, Wotan Ulumado District.
Raditya continued, BPBD also reported material losses in the form of dozens of houses buried in mud in Lamanele Village, Ile Bokeng District.
"In addition, there are houses of local residents washed away by the flood and a broken bridge in Waiburak Village, East Adonara District. Village government officials are still collecting data in the field," he said.
The local government has held a limited meeting between the Regent, TNI, Polri and related agencies. One of them is the establishment of an emergency response post.
Unfortunately, there is one obstacle, namely the difficulty of sea crossing access to Adonara Island. This is because rain, wind and high waves mean that shipping is not allowed by the local authorities.
"BNPB continues to coordinate with BPBD of East Flores Regency and monitor emergency handling. If aid mobilization is needed, BNPB is ready to mobilize resources," he explained.
