One Meter Flood Soaks Mahakam Ulu East Kalimantan

SAMARINDA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Mahakam Ulu Regency, East Kalimantan (Kaltim), together with the Long Pahangai sub-district head carried out coordination for flood management with an average height of one meter in the local sub-district.

"We have coordinated with the Mahakam Ulu Regency Government in handling floods that occurred so quickly today, especially our coordination with BPBD through groups," said Long Pahangai sub-district head Thomas Ding as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 8.

Floods in the sub-district occurred starting at 08.00 local time with varying heights, but the average was in the range of one meter.

Even the official residence of the Long Pangangai sub-district which is also located in Long Pahangai Village with a height of 1.5 meters.

"However, this afternoon the water level began to decline, receding about five centimeters. This is what floods do. It came quickly, it also went down quickly. However, this year's flood was higher than the previous year," said Thomas.

He also said that the flood cycle like this almost occurs every year, when there is heavy rain with a long duration, both heavy rain in Long Pahangai District and upstream sub-district, namely Long Apari District.

"Last night it rained heavily in two sub-districts, namely Long Apari and Long Pahangai, it was predictable that floods would come in the morning. Residents have memorized this condition. They also know that floods are fast and recede quickly," he said.

Floods in Long Pahangai District hit 12 villages, namely Delong Krohong Village, Long Pakaq, Long Pakaq Baru, Long Lunuk, Long Lunuk Baru, Data Naha, Lirung Ubing, Naha Aru, Long Isun, Liu Mulang, Long Pahangai, and Kampung Long Pahangai Dua.

Meanwhile, Leginus Liban Ngau, a resident in Long Pahangai, said residents had placed goods in a higher place so as not to be flooded, he also said that the flood this time was higher than the previous year.
