Minister Of Communication And Information Budi Hopes Internet Speed Can Reach 100 Mbps In 2029
JAKARTA - In 10 years, Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that internet speed in Indonesia increased 10 times, daei 2.5 Mbps in 2014, to 25 Mbps in 2024.
Seeing this growth, the Minister of Communication and Information hopes that Indonesia can achieve the internet acceleration target of 10 times in the next five years, up to 100 Mbps.
Nevertheless, Budi realizes that there are still challenges that must be faced, such as the uneven coverage of internet connectivity between urban and rural areas.
According to him, the problem occurred due to the 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) project which had stalled due to the previous corruption case from the Minister of Communication and Information.
In addition, another problem in the construction of 4G BTS is that most developments exist in Papua, which is a kahar area, geographically the conditions are different from other regions, so it requires extra work.

However, until June 2024, BAKTI Kominfo has built 6,663 4G BTS that have been operating and 18,697 internet access points for public services.
The internet access consists of 8,836 school points, 5,182 government offices, 2,606 health services, 743 community activity centers, 674 places of worship, 322 defense and security services, 139 tourist sites, 120 main services, and 75 public transportation.
