A Year Of Hamas Attack On Israel, Biden Calls For Ceasefire And Hostage Release

JAKARTA - United States President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris called for a ceasefire and a hostage-taking agreement regarding the anniversary of a year of Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7.

"We will not stop trying to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza that can repatriate the hostages, enabling increased humanitarian aid to ease suffering on the ground, ensuring Israel's security, and ending this war. Israelis and Palestinians both have the right to live in security, dignity and peace," Biden wrote., reported by CNN, Monday, October 7th.

"At this solemn commemoration, let us be witnesses of the inhumane brutality in the October 7 attack, but also the beauty of the life that was captured that day," he added.

Harris and Biden also called for a diplomatic solution amid the increasingly widespread war between Hezbollah and Israel.

The two leaders reaffirmed US support for Israel's right to defend itself in the face of Iran's attacks.

It is past time for the hostage-taking and ceasefire deals to end the suffering of innocent people. And I will always fight for the Palestinian people to be able to realize their right to dignity, freedom, security, and self-determination. We also continue to believe that diplomatic solutions in the Israel-Lebanon border region are the only way to restore eternal calm and allow residents on both sides to return safely to their homes," Harris wrote.

The Vice President said he was destroyed' by the loss and pain felt since the October 7 attacks, which sparked war in Gaza.

"We will not forget, and we will not lose faith. And to respect all lost souls on October 7, we must not forget the dream of peace, dignity, and security for all," he wrote.
