Telkomsel Successfully Tests SIM Card Registration With Facial Recognition Biometrics
JAKARTA - Telkomsel has successfully carried out a trial of facial recognition biometric technology, which is applied in the prepaid card registration process and changing cards through Telkomsel's independent service machine.
This step is in line with Telkomsel's commitment to present the latest technological solutions that not only facilitate and accelerate the customer validation process, but also strengthen personal data protection.
This facial recognition biometric technology is expected to complement existing validation methods, such as the use of Population Identification Numbers (NIK) and Family Card Numbers (KK), thus providing a safer, faster, and more comfortable registration experience.
"Through facial recognition biometric technology, we hope that challenges related to identity validation can be resolved effectively," said Director General of Post and Information Administration (PPI) of the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, quoted Monday, October 7.
Wayan also appreciated Telkomsel's steps, and encouraged all telecommunication service providers to participate in carrying out it as well as possible.
Thus, Telkomsel became the pioneer as well as the first telecommunications company to conduct a prepaid card registration trial with facial recognition biometric technology.

"This biometric technology also supports the implementation of the standard Know Your Customer (KYC) implemented by telecommunication operators to ensure the validity of customer data and reduce the risk of fraud and misuse of customer identities that often occur in today's digital era," said Telkomsel Sales Director Adiwinahyu Basuki Sigit.
