Homily Archbishop Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo: Suffering Because Jesus Is A Gift, Joy

JAKARTA - Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo presided over the Good Friday Mass on Friday, April 2 this evening. Masses are held at the Jakarta Cathedral Church with a limited number of people. During the Mass, Cardinal Ignatius was accompanied by 3 priests (priests).

During the homily, the Jakarta Diocese Bishop invited Catholics to reflect on the story of Jesus' passion when he was crucified. The fruit of that reflection should be a part of everyday life, whether for individuals, families or communities.

"In front of Jesus who is crucified we do not need to say anything, do not need to think about anything. It is enough if we bow our heads, give thanks for His infinite love while asking that we may accept the fruits of the cross, we are personally, family- our families and communities, 'said Cardinal Ignatius, who was broadcast on the Komsos Jakarta Cathedral Youtube channel.

Christians are very happy to meditate on the story of the passion of Jesus. Because, meditating on this story, Christians can feel how great and limitless God's love for sinful humans is.

"Second, by reflecting on this story Christians can find meaning from their own experiences," said Cardinal Ignatius.

As experienced by the apostles - followers of Jesus - when they were tried by the Religious Court. Instead of being angry, the apostles were happy because they were deemed worthy of suffering humiliation for the name of Jesus.

"Suffering from being insulted because of Jesus is a gift. The Apostle Paul also wrote the same thing 'now I rejoice that I may suffer for you and fill in my flesh what is lacking in the sufferings of Christ,"

"For the body, which is the church, we hope that we too can discover the experiences of our life through the passion of Jesus," said the Cardinal.

Another meaning that we can find in the story of the passion of Jesus is human dignity.
