The Fall Of Mount Merapi Lava Launched 21 Times Towards The Bebeng River Thursday Morning

SLEMAN - Mount Merapi's volcanic activity continues to show improvement. The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) noted that 21 lava avalanches were observed to the southwest, to be precise towards the Bebeng River.

"This lava fall has a maximum sliding distance of 1,500 meters," said BPPTKG in a statement on Thursday, October 3.

During the observation period on Wednesday, 00.00 to 06.00 WIB, weather conditions around Mount Merapi were observed to be cloudy. The wind blows quietly to the west, with air temperatures ranging from 18.2 celsius to 19 celsius and humidity reaching 89.5-95%. Air pressure was recorded between 874 to 918.3 mmHg.

Visually, Mount Merapi is clearly visible, with white crater smoke and weak pressure, observed as high as 150 meters above the peak.

"In addition, seismic records show 40 avalanches with an amplitude of between 3 and 21 mm, and the duration of the earthquake ranged from 57.56 to 146.32 seconds," he continued.

Currently, Mount Merapi is at Level III or Alert. BPPTKG recommends that people do not carry out activities in areas identified as danger zones.

"The potential danger of lava avalanches and hot clouds is expected to occur in the south-southwest sector which includes the Boyong River as far as 5 kilometers, as well as the Bedog, Krasak, and Bebeng rivers up to 7 kilometers," he said.

In the southeast sector, danger can spread to the Woro River as far as 3 kilometers and the Gendol River up to 5 kilometers. Lontaran of volcanic material can also reach a radius of 3 kilometers from the summit in the event of an explosive eruption.

BPPTKG also warned the public to be aware of the dangers of lava and hot clouds falling, especially when it rains. People around Mount Merapi are advised to prepare themselves for possible disturbances caused by volcanic ash.
