The SEABEF will discuss the main issues of MICE development (Meeting, Incentive, Conference, Exhibition) and business events in the ASEAN and Indonesia region in particular. Meanwhile, WITF will be the B2B exhibition between Indonesian sellers and potential buyers from abroad.
Director of Tourism for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Firnandi Gufron, explained that the second time the SEABEF was held was accompanied by thestationary Indonesia Tourism Fair, after previously the SEABEF was held together with the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2023 in DI Yogyakarta.
"For the SEABEF this time it will be held from 2 to 3 October 2024 and the WITF from 2 to 4 October 2024," said Firnandi.
Firnandi explained that the theme raised at the 2024 SEABEF was The Transformative Impact of Sustainability on The Business Event Industry. With a goal that is to be in line with the global issues of BGCE (Blue, Green, Circular Economy) and sustainability.
So the main topics that will be discussed in the SEABEF include technological transformation, sustainability, and human resources development. Firnandi hopes that the SEABEF can be included in the main agenda of the ASEAN Tourism Forum next year (2025).
"And the closest period of time we hope that WITF can be at the level with ITB Asia. We want to build a very pro MICE ecosystem for the domestic industry. So we hope that we can maximize all of this potential for Indonesia to become a world MICE destination," said Firnandi.
The treasurer of the Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI), Pauline Suharno, added that the initiation of the WITF event began with the desire for Indonesia to have an international trade show, so that sellers not only appear and participate in exhibitions abroad, but also be active at home.
There will be 195 buyers from 38 countries participating in the 2024 WITF. Consisting of Southeast Asia, India, China, Europe, America, the Middle East, and Africa.
Meanwhile, there are 150 sellers from all over Indonesia. Consisting of travel agents, tour operators, hotels, recreational parks, wellness providers, and transportation companies. So all stakeholders in the tourism world who are members of GIPI become sellers," said Pauline.
