24 Artists Become Members Of The DPR, Uya Kuya: If You Can't Work, Don't Hesitate To Demo

JAKARTA - A total of 24 artists became members of the DPR for the period 2024-2029. Artists as well as members of the DPR from the PAN faction, Surya Ula Uya Kuya, appreciated the many Indonesian artists who qualified for parliament.

The artist who started his career as a leader realized that many people were skeptical of artists to become DPR because they were considered incompetent. However, according to him, artists need to be given the opportunity to show their performance as representatives of the people.

"But let's give this artist a chance to prove his work first. If it is proven that he really can't work, don't hesitate to demo, just criticize," said Uya Kuya before attending the MPR 2nd plenary meeting, Wednesday, October 2.

As a Bachelor of political science from the University of Indonesia, Uya Kuya admits that she has the capacity and capability as a member of the council. Instead, he said, he entered the entertainment world like the wrong address, aka Nyasar.

According to him, artists have advantages if they qualify as members of the DPR. One of them, close to the community.

"We represent the people, although it is also the duty of the DPR RI, there is a legislative task, making laws, continuing to supervise and budget, but also diplomacy. And also the law must also have socialization and to the community. The people's representatives channel the aspirations of the community. Well, the point is that the advantage of the artist is that with his closeness to society, it means that the community can be closer to channeling their aspirations," explained Uya.

Not to mention, said Uya, artists have many followers on social media. It is very easy to socialize to the community, on the contrary, it is also easy for people to express their aspirations.

"Artis itu rata-rata sosial medianya itu kan bergede-gede. Dan jadikan sosial media artis-artis yang jadi anggota DPR ini seperti hotline, seperti pengaduan. Sepapa pun yang selama ini masyarakat berbinggat soal ini ke hotline mana, kadang-kadang pemerintah atau instansi ada yang membuat hotline juga pernah diangkatkan. Mungkin kalau ke artis, rasa lebih bisa responnya lebih cepat," pungkas Uya Kuya.

It is known, as many as 580 elected candidates were appointed as members of the DPR for the period 2024-2029. The determination refers to the KPU Decree (SK) Number 1206 of 2024 concerning the Determination of Candidates for Elected Members of the House of Representatives in the 2024 General Election.

Of the 580 members of the DPR, as many as 24 people have been known as public figures, aka artists.
