KPK Council Asked To Completely Investigate Alleged Ethical Violations Of Alexander Marwata

The alleged violation in question is a meeting with the former Head of Yogyakarta Customs, Eko Darmanto, in March 2023.

"We urge the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission to thoroughly investigate the serious ethical violation committed by Alexander Marwata, namely having a direct relationship with the litigants at the KPK or convicted of corruption by the KPK, namely brother Eko Darmanto, former Head of Yogyakarta Customs and Excise. This needs to be done in order to maintain the dignity of the KPK from unscrupulous KPK leaders," said the Coordinator of the Student and Youth Action Committee for Democracy (KAMPUD), Irwan to reporters, Wednesday, October 2.

According to him, the actions taken by Alexander Marwata have violated the provisions of Article 36 in conjunction with Article 65 of the KPK Law. The article states that as the KPK leader, it is prohibited to have direct or indirect relationships with suspects or other parties who are related to corruption cases (Tipikor) handled by the KPK for any reason.

In addition, this action has also violated the Regulation of the Supervisory Board (Perdewas) of the Indonesian KPK number 3 of 2021 article (4) paragraph (2) letter (a), namely having direct relations with litigants is a serious violation.

Moreover, currently the alleged violation committed by Alexander Marwata is being investigated by the Polda Metro Jaya

A number of investigative steps have been taken, one of which is verifying and gathering information materials.

In fact, continued Irwan, Polda Metro Jaya has also issued an Investigation Order and Springas on April 5, 2024 and has been renewed or extended on September 9, 2024.

"This incident, of course, deeply hurts all Indonesian people, especially those who are struggling to get justice in the Republic of Indonesia. Where an Alexander Marwata who should be an example in law enforcement actually takes very disgraceful actions for an Law Enforcement Apparatus," he said.

On that basis, the KPK Council was asked to immediately impose severe sanctions in the form of removing Alexander Marwata as deputy chairman of the anti-corruption agency if he was proven to have violated it.

"As well as encouraging law enforcement officials to process and try Alexander Marwata in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," said Irwan.
