Mandalika MotoGP Spectators Reach 120,000, Economic Impact Reaches IDR 4.8 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Tourism and Aviation BUMN Holding, PT Aviasi Wisata Indonesai or InJourney noted that the number of MotoGP 2024 spectators in Mandalika reached more than 120,000 people. This international motorcycle racing event resulted in an economic impact of IDR 4.8 trillion.

The 2024 MotoGP will be held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) on September 27 to 29, 2024.

InJourney Tourism Marketing and Program Director Maya Watono said this international standard motorcycle racing event was a catalyst for the development of tourism destinations, as well as a good national branding for Indonesia.

According to Maya, a series of events were held at this year's Mandalika MotoGP to increase the number of spectators, as well as attract tourists to Lombok.

In addition to being witnessed directly by more than 120,000 viewers in Mandalika, MotoGP is also watched by more than 300 million pairs of eyes worldwide, broadcast by 119 TV stations spread across 200 countries.

Maya said the implementation of the Mandalika MotoGP also involved around 800 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

In addition, it involves 3,000 local workers to fill the positions of marshall, crowd control, security, waste management, cleaning service, media center, ticketing to hospitality.

"With the involvement of local human resources (human resources), we hope to create sustainable tourism, which has a broad economic impact, both on the local and national economy," Maya said in her statement, quoted Tuesday, October 1.

With various events held at the Mandalika MotoGP, continued Maya, the high number of spectators, and the large number of local workforce involvement has had a major economic impact.

"The multiplier effect is not small, with the economic impact reaching Rp4.8 trillion," he said.

Maya also believes that the consistent implementation of MotoGP in Mandalika will have an impact on sustainable tourism development in NTB, especially Lombok.

"The tourism sector can become an engine for future economic growth, with the holding of the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia (MotoGP) consistently, we hope that in the next 5 to 10 years it can have a sustainable impact on NTB and Indonesia tourism," he said.
