KLHK Prepares Circular Of Mandatory Waste Management After Big Events

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) is preparing a circular requiring event organizers to ensure waste management arising from activities to minimize the resulting waste.

Director of Waste Management of the Directorate General of Waste Management, Waste, and Toxic and Hazardous Materials (PSLB3) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Novrizal Tahar, said that the circular targets non-periodic or non-periodic waste that arises from routine activities.

"So music activities, large sports activities, including religious activities such as the arrival of the Pope, are now we will issue a circular in which the organizer is required to do a less waste event," said Novrizal at the study dissemination event on off-taker waste management. refuse derivative fuel (RDF) in Jakarta, Antara, Tuesday, October 1.

Waste management by the event organizers must be carried out in accordance with applicable standards and arrangements to realize minimal waste activities.

"That's standard. So it's no longer allowed to waste after the event is left, after the marathon activities are left. So that's the point later," said Novrizal.

He said he still could not confirm when the circular would be issued requiring waste management by the event organizers.

The circular from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry itself will be addressed to regional heads as well as ministries/agencies to ensure the implementation of minimal waste events.

The distribution of minimal waste is part of the government's efforts to reduce the generation of waste in the country. Data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN) shows that in 2023 there are 38.7 million tons of waste produced throughout Indonesia and 37.87 percent of them are still not managed.
