The Ministry Of PUPR Said That The Building Sector Contributed To A Third Of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
JAKARTA - Secretary General of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Mohammad Zainal Fatah said the building sector was one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions.
"The building sector is the responsibility and task given to the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing and is one of the main contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. We note (building sector) accounts for a third of total gas emissions," said Zainal Fatah during the launch of the Climate Zone Map for Pasif Cooling and Standard Climate Data in the Sustainable Building Development Process and the International Seminar entitled "Paving Our Sustainable Future: Innovation in Climate Resilient Habitat" at the PUPR Ministry Auditorium, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 1.
On the other hand, he said, the building sector also promised great potential for energy savings and emission reduction.
"In Government Regulation (PP) Number 16 of 2021 concerning the Implementation Regulation of the Building Law, buildings are required to save energy by 25 percent during their operations," he said.
In this regard, the Ministry of PUPR has issued Ministerial Regulation (Permen) PUPR Number 21 of 2021 concerning the Assessment of Green Building Performance.
In this regulation, the potential for energy savings can be done through the implementation of micro climate strategies and passive cooling before implementing energy-efficient electrical mechanical equipment.
"Buildings that meet these requirements will get relatively high value," said Zainal Fatah.
According to him, several countries in the world, both developed and developing countries, have mapped their climate zones for the design of sustainable buildings.
"We provide or get potential energy savings for each zone," he said.
As for now, he continued, Indonesia already has a climate zone for passive cooling potential and standard weather data.

This was realized because of the collaboration between the Ministry of PUPR, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Kagoshima University and Hiroshima University.
Including full support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
"This data will be officially launched today, so that it can be used and beneficial for the development of our national infrastructure," he added.
