Climber From Jakarta Disappears On Mount Rinjani Lombok

MATARAM - A resident from Jakarta went missing while climbing through the Pelawangan Sembalun route on Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The head of the Mount Rinjani National Park (BTNGR) Yarman confirmed the incident that happened to a group of climbers from Jakarta.

"Based on information from fellow victims, this accident occurred at around 16.00 WITA," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 30.

After receiving information about the incident, TNGR immediately moved quickly to conduct a search.

A joint team consisting of TNGR officers, the East Lombok Unit SAR Potential, and the Edelweis Medical Health Center (EMHC) medical team will soon depart for the scene.

"Currently the joint team is conducting intensive searches for missing victims," he said.

He said one member of the KRM initials group was reported missing after falling into the valley on Sunday (29/9) afternoon and his colleague with the initials MAR managed to survive.

"This unfortunate incident occurred when the two climbers were crossing Mount Rinjani through the Sembalun Volunteers," he said.

The fate of the KRM is now in the hands of the search team, difficult terrain conditions and uncertain weather are a challenge in its search and evacuation efforts.

"We hope that the victim can be found safe soon," he said

Meanwhile, the other eight friends of the victim have managed to get down to Sembalun. Four other people chose to remain in the Pelawan Sembalun emergency shelter to wait for the progress of the search and evacuation.

This incident serves as a reminder for climbers to always be vigilant and comply with all applicable regulations.

The dynamic natural conditions on Mount Rinjani require each climber to prepare himself carefully, both physically and mentally.

"We urge all climbers to always coordinate with the TNGR and bring adequate equipment," he said.
