Preventing Identification Abuse, SIM Card Registration In Indonesia Will Use Biometrics
BANDUNG - To eradicate identity abuse in SIM card registration, telecommunications service providers are preparing plans to implement biometric identification during registration.
Thus, this method is expected to reduce the use of other people's identities. Because with biometric methods using face recognition, only the original identity owner can use it for SIM card registration.
"What is the goal? So that people who have an accuracy with a SIM Card, or who have an ID, are the people. Avoid re-pre-reg or registration that is used or other people," said XL Axiata Chief Corporate Affairs, Marwan O. Baasir when met in Bandung on Friday, September 27.
Despite having several discussions with the Population and Civil Registration Service (Dukcapil), Marwan emphasized that the plan is still in the Proof-of-Concept (POC) stage.
"It's still at POC. It's about when to be effective, subject to regulations," Marwan said of when this biometric registration would be realized.

Marwan also explained some of the benefits of implementing this biometric SIM card registration, the main thing is accuracy. So the data really has legal certainty.
"People have to use my face to be able to verify. Their ID cards are borrowed can't work anymore," concluded Marwan.
